The Chemex Coffee Maker is one of the most widely used methods by baristas to prepare more soluble coffees, with less solid residue, clearer flavors, and aromas. It is a drip method, which means that the water passes through a layer of coffee and a filter usually made of paper. Compared to a French Press, the Chemex gives you an incredibly clean cup of coffee, its paper filters are 20% to 30% heavier than other filters so that they can retain more of the suspended oils during the extraction process and so that solids cannot pass through the filter.
The method as such consists of a glass device with a wooden washer in the middle, with a conical top that allows holding the filter paper to store the ground coffee and pour the hot water afterward.
